Singular cochain complex

Definition

The singular cochain complex of a topological space $X$ with coefficients in a commutative ring $R$ is the dual to the singular chain complex of $X$ with coefficients in $R$.

By default, the singular cochain complex is understood to mean the singular cochain complex with integer coefficients, in which case it is the dual to the usual singular chain complex.
